For the first time, an independent tuberculosis course was singled out in 1935 (Order No. 109 of October 23, 1935) and “Baygurin Alzhan Makhmudovich was nominated as an exemplary teacher and research worker for the post of privat-docent. He had a good command of literary and scientific Kazakh and Russian languages, had publications in two languages. The medical institute highly valued the education and efficiency of the young scientist, but in 1938 he was repressed and died. Completely rehabilitated in 1956. On the basis of the course, the Department of Tuberculosis of the Kazakh National Medical University was organized on November 12, 1941 (Order of the Committee on Higher School Affairs of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR No. 137 of November 4, 1941). The first head of the department was professor Mikhail Ruvimovich Borok, who was evacuated during the Second World War from Leningrad, assistant professor Nezlin S.E., assistants Treilikh E.A. and Morozov M.E
In different years the department was headed by the well-deserved doctors and outstanding scientists of the RK – Professor Zyuzin Vasily Ivanovich (1943-1964), associate professor Khasenov Adiken Nurkenovich (1964- 1975).
From 1975 to 1996, the department was headed by Maskeev Kuanysh Mubarakovich Academician and Vice President of the Academy of Natural Sciences of the RK, Honored Scientist. After graduation from the PhD in phthisiology, he worked as the head of the department of the sanatorium “Chimbulak” (1961-1963), and in 1963-1975 Associate Professor, Professor, Head of the Department of Tuberculosis and Vice-Rector of the Almaty State Institute for Advanced Medical Education (ASI for AME),
from 1975 to 1987 (12 years) was the rector of the ASMI.
From 1996 to 2002, the head of the department was Muminov Talgat Ashirovich- Academician of the Academy of Sciences, RAMS, Hamburg Academy of Medicine and Prevention, Polish Medical Academy, President of the Association of phthisiatricians of Kazakhstan, doctor of medical sciences, professor.

Rakisheva Anar Saduakasovna, graduated with honors from the pediatric faculty of the ASMI in 1979. Since the same year she has been working at the Department of Phthisiopulmonology, consistently at the positions of a trainee researcher, clinical resident, laboratory assistant, assistant, assistant professor, head of the department since 2002. Candidate of Medical Sciences since 1987, associate professor since 2000, in 2002 defended her doctoral thesis on specialty 14.00.26 – phthisiology.
She is a highly qualified specialist in phthisiology, a doctor of the highest category, provides practical, consultative and methodological assistance to health institutions of the city and region. She takes an active part in research work, has 310 published scientific works in the domestic and foreign press, including the textbook “Phthisiology”, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, monograph, 9 author’s certificates for inventions, 11 methodical recommendations, 9 teaching aids, information letter . Over the past 5 years she has been the leader of 4 scientific projects: the NTP of the Ministry of Health of the RK “Development of measures to prevent recurrence of tuberculosis with various types of drug resistance” (together with the National Center for tuberculosis problems of the Republic of Kazakhstan), the First President’s Fund «Students – the risk group for tuberculosis», «Development of measures to prevent tuberculosis in students», ” Identification of molecular genetic prognostic criteria for predisposition to tuberculosis”.
