Research interests: classical and modern microbiological methods for diagnosing infectious diseases; study of molecular mechanisms; research on the role of microorganisms in ecosystems; investigation of pathogenicity mechanisms; antibiotic resistance (genetic mechanisms leading to resistance, mechanisms of activation and deactivation of antibiotics, methods for diagnosing antibiotic resistance, modern molecular diagnostic methods such as PCR and sequencing); use of automated systems for determining the resistance of pathogens to antibiotics; epidemiology of antibiotic resistance; future research in antibiotic resistance (new technologies for detecting and preventing resistance, studies on bacteriophages and their applications, the prospects of immunotherapy and other alternative approaches), etc.

Her research interests include the study of normal human microbiota, the biological properties of microorganisms, clinical microbiology, modern methods of microbiological disease diagnosis, pneumococcal infection, antibiotic resistance in bacteria, pathogenic properties of Candida, and more.

K.K. Mustafina is a good teacher and lecturer, repeatedly noted by students in the questionnaire with a positive side. Conducts practical classes and gives lectures in Russian and English on the whole course of microbiology, virology, immunology, medical parasitology for students of all specialities studying at the department. She speaks Russian (fluent), Kazakh (conversational), English – Intermediate level. Mustafina K.K. actively participates in introduction of innovative educational technologies at the department (has 14 acts of introduction). In addition, she participated in the creation of a new model of medical education KazNMU.
