During the session, the history of the political protest by Kazakh youth in Almaty in 1986 was discussed. The cause of this uprising was the appointment of Gennady Kolbin, who came from the RSFSR, as the head of Kazakhstan. At the end of the advisory hour, it was noted that this event was a manifestation of the desire to protect the national interests and independence of the country. Furthermore, the December 1986 uprising strengthened the patriotic spirit of the youth, national consciousness, and became a symbol of resistance to the Soviet system. It was also emphasized that this movement played an important role in Kazakhstan’s path to independence.
