History of the department

The Department of Pathological Anatomy was organized in 1933, its team then consisted of three employees: professor N.E. Gleckler and two assistants – E.A. Troitskiy and Ya.E. Landa. This small team was actively creating a collection of macro- and micropreparations for general pathological processes and the most important diseases of human organs and systems. In-depth methodological work was carried out to structure the lecture material and practical classes in the general and private course of pathological anatomy. In 1934-1938 the head of the department was associate professor B.F. Malyshev, who represented the Leningrad School of Pathologists. The first graduate students of the department were A.I. Zikeev and S.F.Serov. Subsequently, associate professor A.I. Zikeeva organized the Department of Pathological Anatomy at the Alma-Ata Institute for Advanced Medical Studies of the Ministry of Health of the USSR. Professor S.F.Serov for many years headed the laboratory of pathomorphology at the Research Institute of Oncology named after N.N. Petrov in Leningrad. Since 1938, the department was headed by associate professor P.P. Ochkur, representative of the Kharkov School of Pathologists. P.P. Ochkur led research on the morphology of infectious pathology and oncology in Kazakhstan. He published in 1960 a unique monograph on morphological changes in brucellosis, which became widely known both in the country and abroad. The results of his research on brucellosis were presented in a guide published in Berlin on pathological anatomy in 1966. Since 1956, at the initiative of P.P. Ochkur, the city scientific community of pathologists actively worked at the department of pathological anatomy of the ASMI. In subsequent years, the department was led by students of  P.P. Ochkur – associate professor A.I. Kondratenko (1969-1970, 1973-1974), professor F.Ya. Yaglinskiy (1972).

Khalida Safievna Nugmanova-MD, Professor, headed the Department for 15 years from 1975 to 1990. and during her work at the Department, the scientific direction of the Department became lung pathology.

Samigulla Ibatullaevich Irzhanov-head of the Department from 1990 to 2010, MD, Professor, doctor of the highest category. Priority scientific directions of the Department in this period were oncomorphology and infectious pathology.

Julia Siyazbekovna Ismailova-head of the Department of pathological anatomy from 2010 to February 2013, MD, Professor, doctor of the highest category. Scientific interests of the Department: perinatal pathology, viral infections, pediatric pathology.

Aigul Dyusekeshevna sapargalieva-head of the Department of pathological anatomy from 2013 to September 2017, MD, Professor, doctor of the highest category. Scientific interests of the Department: “Congenital heart disease”, conducted the author’s course ” Expert evaluation of medical documents.”

Priority scientific directions of the department during the period of the professor S.I. Irzhanov became oncomorphology, infectious pathology, diseases of the perinatal period. In these research areas, 20 candidate dissertations and 2 doctoral dissertations were defended under the guidance of professor S.I. Irzhanov and professor Yu.S. Ismailova. Doctoral and master’s theses were defended by the staff of the department – d.m.s.Yu.S. Ismailova, c.m.s. A.A. Nartaeva,  c.m.s. M.K. Serikbay, c.m.s. A.H. Balapanova.
From the 2017-2018 academic year, they were named the Department of Pathological Anatomy with a course of forensic medicine. Training takes place in Kazakh, Russian and English, the form of training is linear and cyclic.

Since February 2018, the department moved to building No. 8, which is located on 99 Zhamakayev Street (Gorniy Gigant microdistrict). Classrooms are located on 2, 3 floors, their total area is 338.8 sq.m.From 2017 to the present, the head of the department is the candidate of medical sciences, pathologist of the highest category Balapanova Anar Hayrzhanovna.
