As part of the educational work of the S.R. Karynbayev Department of Normal Anatomy, an event entitled “The Closure of the Semipalatinsk Test Site – Historical Justice” was held on April 24, 2026. Department faculty members N.B. Abirova, A.A. Balapanova, T.K. Isabekova, and S.R. Kenbaeva, as well as students of the School of General Medicine, participated in the event. This event is considered one of the most important events in the history of Kazakhstan. In connection with the 35th anniversary of this historic decision (in 2026), an educational, patriotic, and environmental event was organized. The goal of the event was to explain to students the harm nuclear testing can cause to human health and the environment, to develop historical awareness, and to promote peaceful values.
During the event, participants were provided with detailed information about the history of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. Videos were shown about the consequences of nuclear testing, including the harmful effects of radiation on public health and environmental disasters. The significance of the historic decision made by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, was also particularly emphasized. This decision was seen as a clear demonstration of our country’s peace-loving policy. The event included a student discussion on the issue of nuclear weapons. Participants also presented papers on the topic and shared their opinions.
